Galvanized coil is a metal material with a zinc protective film formed on the surface of cold-rolled or hot-rolled steel coils through continuous hot-dip plating or electroplating process, which has both anti-corrosion and forming processing properties. Its core process includes three steps: first, the substrate is pickled to remove the oxide layer, then hot-dip plating (hot-dip galvanizing) or zinc layer is formed by electrolytic deposition (electrogalvanizing) in 450-480℃ zinc liquid, and finally air knife control, cooling and passivation treatment. Hot-dip galvanizing has stronger bonding and weather resistance due to the presence of zinc-iron alloy layer, while electrogalvanizing has a more uniform and smooth surface, which is suitable for precision processing. Both processes require precise control of parameters such as zinc liquid composition, temperature and production line speed.

Coating thickness is a key indicator of galvanized coils. The single-sided thickness of hot-dip galvanizing is usually 10-27μm (Z60-Z275 standard), while that of electrogalvanizing is 3-20μm (A-Ⅳ grade). The thickness selection depends on the application scenario: building structures often use a thick zinc layer of 40-60g/㎡ (double-sided) to enhance corrosion resistance, while home appliance shells use a thin layer of 10-20g/㎡ to ensure formability. The zinc layer not only protects the steel base from corrosion, but also provides a cathodic protection effect. When damaged, it can still delay the corrosion of the parent material. It is widely used in construction, home appliances, automobiles and other fields.
